Hastwell & Lightfoot [McLaren Vale SA], Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

This Hastwell & Lightfoot 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a worthy testament to that variety from the McLaren Vale region.
Deep mulberry with a clear meniscus and limpid legs presage a wine of heft and substance.
The up-front nose delivers a waft of raspberry and menthol fragrance, the latter due to the touch of Cabernet Franc in the blend.
However, the body of this wine is well anchored in the typical varietal descriptors of blackcurrant, red berries with a hint of tobacco and capsicum.
All the components are in balance, delivering an overall mouthfeel of glycerol smoothness [14% Alc], fine slippery tannins, fruit power & freshness.
The 3 year development has allowed some smoothing of the varietiy's angularity, allowing for integration of the components into a well-rounded punchy wine.
It is a very enjoyable, textural, well-priced Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hastwell & Lightfoot team, one that should find favour both at cellar door and in the retail sector.
We enjoyed ours with a simple lamb roast and mixed roast vegetables.
