Terra Felix - Central Victoria, Marsanne Roussanne 2004
I bought this wine as part of a mixed dozen of aged Rhone
white varieties at an auction last year - I was actually the auctioneer and was the only one in the crowd with a penchant for old Aussie whites.
It's deep bronze in the glass.
Orange rind; roasted hazelnuts; and the dryest of dried apricots - aromas show maturity without any suggestion this has expired.
More minerals and textures than fruit on the palate - phenolic grip and chalky oak-tannins - mandarin bath bomb.
Tough judging a 16 year-old white blend that would have been $20 on release with anything but respect.
The winemaker should be proud.
