Angullong (Orange, NSW), "Fossil Hill" Barbera 2018

This 2018 Angullong "Fossil Hill" Barbera is one of a Mediterranean Varieties trilogy recently released by Ben Crossing and team.
The Barbera grape, traditionally long-established in Italy, is still considered as an "emerging" variety in Australia and seems to have found favour in the Mount Canobolas region of Orange.
The colour is deep mulberry with a limpid meniscus presaging glycerol warmth [14.5% Alc]. Another good-value winter warmer from the Angullong team
The initial nose is fragrant and crosses over between floral and cherry. These aromas continue to unfurl on breathing.
True to its rustic varietal typicity, the palate delivers a lingering medley of earthy leather, mushrooms, maraschino cherry and texturally astringent acid.
These attributes support and carry the ripe fulness of the fruit across the tongue and palate.
Ours was enjoyed with a couple of gourmet meat pies.

As well as producing consistently reliable and well-priced expressive wines, the Angullong brand is now associated with and linked to the Sydney Youth Orchestra [SYO].
Angullong's brand manager, Heidi Crossing herself an experienced music teacher has engineered this partnership with SYO which nurtures young musical talent and provides opportunities to educate and achieve excellence.
This venture will also showcase the Angullong wines to the music audiences and bring the orchestra to the Orange region. A praiseworthy Win - Win endeavour for all concerned parties.
