Pizzini [King Valley Vic], Teroldego 2019

The Pizzini family reputation of establishing and vinifying alternative European, mainly Italian, varieties in the King Valley has earned well-deserved and entrenched repute in the wine industry.
Under the meticulous guardianship of father / son winemaking team of Fred and Joel, a range of lesser known varieties have been trialled and released commercially, hence this Pizzini 2019 Teroldego.. a variety that was new to me.
It's apparently a traditional grape from the NE region of Trentino-Alto Adige of Italy.
The wine is darkly, almost impenetrably, pigmented and fruity in the dark cherry / blue berry range with back notes of earthy mushrooms. It could almost be confused with a brash, hearty young Shiraz to which it is purportedly related
Unpretentious in palate depth or flavour complexity, it nontheless delivers of punch of vibrant freshness and acid vivacity and warmth.
As the label says, it is "deliciously drinkable".
We enjoyed our bottle with both home-made aubergine parmigiana and with a dish of pork sausage with sauteed mushroom sandwiches.
